Abstract: In this study, focusing our attention on Plato’s Laws, we attempt to present how his political philosophy is capable of becoming a suggestion for transformation of the contemporary political reality. In order to bring to the light the utilizable views, we approach very carefully the concept of law, examining the conditions under which it is considered to be a science, its relation to ethics, its specifications, its importance in a customary level and the way in which it is related to the political system. We also discuss the content of the laws and the particularly important role of the legislator. The most interesting platonic views emerge to be the dialectic relation between personhood and collectivity, the determination of the political system by moral values, the utilization of the laws for spiritual transformation of the citizens and the need for unchangedable principles as foundations of the legal system.
