Abstract: The article focuses on the African struggle against the COVID-19 pandemic. Because a micro-organism named Coronavirus, scientists are scrambling to find an antidote, while political authorities are putting in place various preventive measures at the risk of violating fundamental individual rights. This paper aims at exploring how, from a social and cultural point of view, African people cope with such a phenomenon. How do African cultures integrate norms imposed by the international health community whose WHO is the main representative? How far does this community take into consideration cultural values and what place does it assign to Africa in the search for a solution to COVID-19 pandemic?
