Abstract: Starting with the much-repeated but rarely taken seriously aphorism “it is easier to imagine the end of the world, than to imagine the end of capitalism”. I argue that the only way to avoid the destructive consequences of class polarisation and its inherent ecological unsustainability, is to create non-capitalist communities of producer-consumer cooperatives outside the orbit of the hierarchic state.
